About Us

Mission - To enable access to Upper Limb Amputees to one of the best and India's first fully functional Bionic Hand, at an affordable price while keeping in mind the economic challenges of the developing world.

Driven by a vision to cater to the needs of the Indian & Global disabled populations of over 40 million, with an Indian alternative to serve and democratize the assistive-technology industry, 23 social and tech enthusiasts came together to form Makers Hive in 2018.

We were inspired by Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India, whose ideals guided our thinking towards developing cutting-edge assistive technology to address the current socio-economic issues that the populace in developing countries like India faces.

By creating a fully functioning and mobile app-enabled Bionic Hand-KalArm®, named in the honor of Dr. Kalam, Makers Hive aims to transform persons with amputations from Being Disabled to Being Futuristically Abled.

We present to you, KalArm®-India’s first fully functional Bionic Hand, with 18 pre-defined grips and bespoke aesthetics. Designed and Developed in Hyderabad, India, KalArm® is a 3D-printed, EMG sensors embedded, lightweight, and affordable bionic hand, targeted at both National and Global markets of persons with Upper-limb Below-Elbow Amputations, that can give India an edge to become globally competitive in the Prosthetics Industry.

KalArm® is available with a forearm socket tailor-made for each user, along with the option to also customize the colors of the outer shells/panels to the user’s own liking.

We, at Makers Hive, believe that the Health-Tech industry needs to be ‘transformed’ rather than ‘reformed’. The key to this transformation is to ‘personalize’ rather than ‘standardize’ the Prosthetics Sector, and hence KalArm®–a disruptive product for the genesis of a new era-is Our Solution!
